Fall Comes to the Plateau

Sep 22nd, 2009 by Kevin, FCD

Fall arrived today, officially a few hours ago, and the leaves of the Quaking Aspen on the Paunsaugant Plateau (home of Bryce Canyon) are definitely changing. Some of the leaves are still quite green in some places, others have already to varying shades of yellow to red. This morning I spent the last few hours of Summer in the Dixie National Forest making a few images of the change in seasons.

Saw some wildlife on my adventure, too, mostly birds, including Northern Harrier, Golden Eagle, Clark’s Nutcracker, some sparrows & juncos, but also some Mule Deer, Pronghorn, and a really nice looking coyote (who, unfortunately, had no desire to hang around and pose).

The aspens are great, problem is changing trees also means changing weather – a chilly 26° this morning. Brrrr!!!

You can have some of this muggy nonsense we’ve been having here. Low 90s with the heat index… bleh!

I cannot persuade myself that a beneficent and omnipotent God would have designedly created parasitic wasps with the express intention of their feeding within the living bodies of Caterpillars. — Charles Darwin
