Who said 2008 was a bad year? :) You did very well.
Well, it's a photographer thing, you can never have enough good photos - you should know, eh?. ;)
How many photographs do you think you took in the whole year of 2008?
Tucker - Probably something on the order of 1500-1800 for my portfolio, of which I kept about 300. Plus another 700 or so for outside work. Out of the stuff I shoot for portfolio I keep, at most, 20% when I have a really good day, however 10-15% is more realistic. I'll frequently waste a lot of frames on small birds and other animals who constantly move around - just when the brain says shoot they'll move or, with birds, fly away (I remember a shot of a flicker that launched just as I hit the shutter and all I had was air and his back half).
Kevin, what size lens did you use for the bird and prairie dog photos. They look like you were only a foot away. Great "parting" shot of you and Roxy. Your slide show is quite impressive. I really like how you embed the info on each of the photos.
Mary, almost all of the wildlife images are shot with a 500mm, usually with a 1.4X teleconverter, equaling about 14x magnification. With smaller birds I'm usually about 12-18 feet away, prairie dogs 25-35 feet, something big like a deer, to get the full body, I'll be well over 100 feet away.
Glad you like the slide show - thanks so very much!
Those are awesome photos. I love the one of the warbler a lot. Good job!
Thanks BWB!
Looking forward to Spring when those little guys start showing up again (and hope to come across some of the other warblers - Townsends, MacGillivray's, Yellow-breasted Chat - that they say should be here at Bryce . . .)
